Here is who Wegovy is approved for, how the steps work, what NovoCare does once the prescription arrives, and what a first year costs.
Who Wegovy is approved for
The Wegovy injection is approved, with a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity, “to reduce excess body weight and maintain weight reduction long term” in adults and children 12 and older with obesity, and in adults with overweight plus at least one weight-related condition (Wegovy prescribing information, revised 06/2026). It is also approved to lower the risk of heart attack, stroke and cardiovascular death in adults with established heart disease and obesity or overweight, and, under accelerated approval, to treat a form of fatty liver disease (MASH) with moderate to advanced scarring in adults.
Gentle Health treats adults 18 and older. Whether Wegovy is right for you is the doctor’s decision, made on your health history, your other medicines and the conditions that make GLP-1 medicines unsafe. A prescription is never guaranteed.
How it works with Gentle Health
- You complete the online intake. It asks about your health history, current medicines and weight.
- The doctor reviews it. That is a written review in most states, or a video visit where your state requires one or you ask for one.
- If Wegovy is right for you, the doctor sends the prescription to NovoCare Pharmacy. You pay us $28/month from then on for the doctor’s care, including messaging and video visits. You pay nothing before the prescription is written, there is no minimum, and you can cancel any time.
- NovoCare texts you. Once it has received and processed the prescription, which can take a few days, it sends a text with the next steps: set up an account, pay, and choose delivery or pickup. Shipping is free.

NovoCare prices as of October 19, 2026 (NovoCare Pharmacy). One fill is “1 box of 4 Single-Dose Prefilled Pens equivalent to a 28-day supply” (NovoCare Pharmacy terms).
The $199 new-patient price applies to people who have never filled a Wegovy injection prescription through NovoCare. It requires the prescription to be written on or before December 31, 2026, received by the pharmacy by the end of that day, and shipped by January 31, 2027. The third fill goes back to $349.
NovoCare also sells Wegovy HD, a 7.2 mg dose, at $399 a month.
A first year, worked through
Because a fill lasts 28 days, a year is 13 fills, not 12. For a new patient on the label’s schedule:
- 2 fills at $199 = $398
- 11 fills at $349 = $3,839
- Medicine for year one: $4,237, plus our care at 12 × $28
Each year after that, 13 fills at $349 come to $4,537 for the medicine. These totals assume every fill is made on time and leave out any change to NovoCare’s prices.

Doses, refills and dose changes
The label starts Wegovy at 0.25 mg once a week for four weeks, then steps up every four weeks: 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg. From week 17 the maintenance dose for adult weight management is 1.7 mg or 2.4 mg (2.4 mg recommended). Your doctor decides each step based on how you respond and how well you tolerate it, and can hold or slow a step if side effects call for it.
A dose change means a new prescription, which the doctor sends to NovoCare. When you are running low, we check in before you run out, and messaging the doctor about side effects or a dose question is part of the care.
The pen
Each box holds 4 single-dose pens, one per week, and each pen has its needle built in, so there are no separate needles to buy. Keep the pens in the refrigerator. If needed, before the cap comes off, a pen can be kept between 46°F and 86°F for up to 28 days. Throw each pen away after use (Wegovy prescribing information).
When another route may cost less
- Commercial insurance that covers Wegovy. Novo Nordisk’s savings offer can bring a covered prescription down to as little as $25, with savings capped at $100 a month. Government beneficiaries are excluded. If your plan covers it, that will usually cost less than self-pay, and it is worth asking first.
- Medicare. The temporary Medicare GLP-1 Bridge covers the Wegovy injection for weight management for eligible people, with a $50 monthly copay, through December 31, 2027.
- Ozempic. It contains the same medicine but is approved for type 2 diabetes. We don’t prescribe it, and coverage for weight is rare: see does insurance cover Ozempic for weight loss?
We also prescribe compounded semaglutide, from $135 a month with the medication included. Compounded medications are not FDA-approved, and compounded semaglutide is not a generic or an equivalent version of Wegovy.
