GLP-1 telehealth in Pennsylvania: how it works.
Telehealth rules vary by state, and so does how our service works. Here is exactly what to expect in Pennsylvania — with the public records to verify our licensure.
- In Pennsylvania, a licensed physician reviews your medical intake online and decides whether a video visit is needed.
- James Simmons, MD is licensed to practice in Pennsylvania (license MD496905). Verify it yourself with the Pennsylvania State Board of Medicine.
- Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are still prescribed lawfully, in narrower cases than before the FDA shortages ended. Is compounded tirzepatide still legal in 2026? explains the federal rules with the FDA’s own dates, and how to check any provider.
Law and coverage answers checked against primary sources on September 14, 2026.
Can I get a GLP-1 prescription online in Pennsylvania?
Yes. You complete a short medical intake online, and a doctor licensed in Pennsylvania personally reviews it — no video visit needed (you can book one if you want it). If treatment is appropriate for you, your prescription is filled by a licensed US pharmacy and shipped overnight to your door anywhere in Pennsylvania. You don't need to visit a clinic to start treatment.
How much does GLP-1 treatment cost in Pennsylvania?
Semaglutide injections start at $135/month and tirzepatide at $169/month. The price includes the medication itself, your doctor visits, ongoing medical supervision, and overnight refrigerated shipping. There is no membership fee, and the intake and your doctor's first review or visit are free: you pay nothing until you choose to start medication.
Do you take insurance?
Not at this time. For compounded medicine we charge one all-in monthly price with the medication, doctor visits, and shipping included, so there is no prior authorization. Brand-name care is $28/month for the doctor, and you buy the medicine from the maker's pharmacy. HSA and FSA cards are accepted at checkout, and we provide itemized receipts and a Letter of Medical Necessity on request.
Which medications do you prescribe?
Compounded semaglutide (the active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic) and compounded tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Zepbound and Mounjaro), each as a weekly injection. Tirzepatide and semaglutide injections may contain nothing added or a B vitamin. Your doctor recommends the medication, form, and dose that fit your health history and goals.
Who prescribes my medication?
James Simmons, MD, our medical director, is licensed in Pennsylvania and board-certified in emergency medicine (ABEM). He personally reviews your intake, meets with you over video when either of you wants a visit, and supervises your treatment over time.
Where in Pennsylvania do you serve?
All of Pennsylvania. Care is fully online and medication ships overnight statewide, so care is the same whether you're in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Allentown, Reading, or a town without a weight-management clinic nearby.
Does Medicare or Pennsylvania Medical Assistance cover this?
Not through Gentle Health. We do not bill Medicare, Pennsylvania Medical Assistance or private insurance, and everyone pays the prices shown on this page. To pursue coverage instead you would need a provider who accepts your plan and prescribes a medication it covers — the FDA-approved brands, not a compounded preparation. Where each programme stands:
- Pennsylvania Medical Assistance: Covered until it wasn't. Effective January 1, 2026 coverage of GLP-1s for overweight and obesity ended across fee-for-service and managed care alike, and existing prior authorizations stopped being valid after December 31, 2025 regardless of the condition treated. Coverage continues for other indications, including type 2 diabetes.
- Medicare: Coverage may still be possible through the federal GLP-1 Bridge: a $50 copay for Wegovy, Zepbound or Foundayo through December 31, 2027, for Part D enrollees with a BMI of 35 or more, or lower with specific heart, stroke, artery, blood-pressure, kidney or prediabetes conditions. Type 2 diabetes, moderate-to-severe sleep apnea and MASH are covered through regular Part D instead.
Does Pennsylvania require an in-person visit before a doctor can prescribe?
No. Pennsylvania's 2024 telemedicine statute (Act 42) defines telemedicine, requires health insurance policies to cover medically necessary services delivered through it by in-network providers, and imposes no in-person-exam prerequisite. No Pennsylvania statute or board regulation requires an in-person visit before a physician prescribes non-controlled medications by telemedicine. What Pennsylvania does require is that the physician hold a Pennsylvania licence.
How do I avoid counterfeit GLP-1 medication in Pennsylvania?
On May 22, 2025 Pennsylvania's Attorney General warned of a counterfeit market for GLP-1 drugs, often originating from foreign countries, and urged Pennsylvanians taking these drugs to be sure they are getting them from licensed pharmacies. Any product containing real semaglutide or tirzepatide requires a prescription, so a seller offering it without one is not the licensed pharmacy that warning pointed to.
