How it works here

GLP-1 telehealth in Indiana: how it works.

Telehealth rules vary by state, and so does how our service works. Here is exactly what to expect in Indiana — with the public records to verify our licensure.

  • In Indiana, a licensed physician reviews your medical intake online and decides whether a video visit is needed.
  • James Simmons, MD is licensed to practice in Indiana (license 01100922A). Verify it yourself with the Indiana Medical Licensing Board.
  • Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are still prescribed lawfully, in narrower cases than before the FDA shortages ended. Is compounded tirzepatide still legal in 2026? explains the federal rules with the FDA’s own dates, and how to check any provider.

Law and coverage answers checked against primary sources on September 13, 2026.

Can I get a GLP-1 prescription online in Indiana?

Yes. You complete a short medical intake online, and a doctor licensed in Indiana personally reviews it — Indiana's Medical Licensing Board rules require a documented history and physical evaluation before prescribing and bar prescribing based solely on an online questionnaire, so your doctor may message you with questions or ask you to book a video visit. If treatment is appropriate for you, your prescription is filled by a licensed US pharmacy and shipped overnight to your door anywhere in Indiana. You may not need to visit a clinic in person.

How much does GLP-1 treatment cost in Indiana?

Semaglutide injections start at $135/month and tirzepatide at $169/month. The price includes the medication itself, your doctor visits, ongoing medical supervision, and overnight refrigerated shipping. There is no membership fee, and the intake and your doctor's first review or visit are free: you pay nothing until you choose to start medication.

Do you take insurance?

Not at this time. For compounded medicine we charge one all-in monthly price with the medication, doctor visits, and shipping included, so there is no prior authorization. Brand-name care is $28/month for the doctor, and you buy the medicine from the maker's pharmacy. HSA and FSA cards are accepted at checkout, and we provide itemized receipts and a Letter of Medical Necessity on request.

Which medications do you prescribe?

Compounded semaglutide (the active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic) and compounded tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Zepbound and Mounjaro), each as a weekly injection. Tirzepatide and semaglutide injections may contain nothing added or a B vitamin. Your doctor recommends the medication, form, and dose that fit your health history and goals.

Who prescribes my medication?

James Simmons, MD, our medical director, is licensed in Indiana and board-certified in emergency medicine (ABEM). He personally reviews your intake, meets with you over video when either of you wants a visit, and supervises your treatment over time.

Where in Indiana do you serve?

All of Indiana. Care starts online and medication ships overnight statewide, so care is the same whether you're in Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Evansville, Carmel, or a town without a weight-management clinic nearby.

Does Medicare or Indiana Medicaid cover this?

Not through Gentle Health. We do not bill Medicare, Indiana Medicaid or private insurance, and everyone pays the prices shown on this page. To pursue coverage instead you would need a provider who accepts your plan and prescribes a medication it covers — the FDA-approved brands, not a compounded preparation. Where each programme stands:

  1. Indiana Medicaid: Not covered for weight loss. Rule 405 IAC 5-24-3(b) excludes anorectics or any agent used to promote weight loss. On July 30, 2026 the Governor directed Indiana Medicaid to join the federal BALANCE demonstration to cover select FDA-approved GLP-1s for eligible members with obesity; the announcement left eligibility criteria and timing to be announced later. Indiana's state employee plan separately dropped GLP-1s for weight loss on January 1, 2026.
  2. Medicare: Coverage may still be possible through the federal GLP-1 Bridge: a $50 copay for Wegovy, Zepbound or Foundayo through December 31, 2027, for Part D enrollees with a BMI of 35 or more, or lower with specific heart, stroke, artery, blood-pressure, kidney or prediabetes conditions. Type 2 diabetes, moderate-to-severe sleep apnea and MASH are covered through regular Part D instead.

Do I need a video visit in Indiana, or is an online review enough?

An online review is allowed by Indiana's telehealth statute, but the Medical Licensing Board's own rules point the other way. Indiana Code 25-1-9.5-8 affirmatively permits telehealth prescribing with no prior in-person examination, and real-time audio-video is required only for controlled substances, which GLP-1s are not. Store-and-forward review is inside Indiana's statutory definition of telehealth — but an internet questionnaire on its own does not count as telehealth for a new patient. The Medical Licensing Board's older rules are still in force: one says a physician may not prescribe a non-controlled legend drug to someone the physician has never personally physically examined and diagnosed, unless another physician with an ongoing relationship with the patient agrees to supervise (844 IAC 5-4-1(b)), and another prohibits prescribing based solely on an online questionnaire or consultation (844 IAC 5-3-3).

Will my regular doctor find out what I was prescribed in Indiana?

Yes, if you consent and give your primary care provider's contact information. Under IC 25-1-9.5-7(b)(6) a telehealth prescriber must then notify that provider of any prescription, unless the prescriber uses an electronic health record system your primary care provider is authorized to access. Separately, under 7(b)(8) the prescriber must give you a telehealth visit summary that shows what was prescribed.
