How it works here

GLP-1 telehealth in Georgia: how it works.

Telehealth rules vary by state, and so does how our service works. Here is exactly what to expect in Georgia — with the public records to verify our licensure.

  • In Georgia, care starts with a live video visit — booked online, taken from home.
  • James Simmons, MD is licensed to practice in Georgia (license 111870). Verify it yourself with the Georgia Composite Medical Board.

Law and coverage answers checked against primary sources on September 14, 2026.

Can I get a GLP-1 prescription online in Georgia?

Yes. You complete a short medical intake, then meet a doctor licensed in Georgia over video. If treatment is appropriate for you, your prescription is filled by a licensed US pharmacy and shipped overnight to your door anywhere in Georgia. Georgia asks us to make sure you are examined in person once a year by a Georgia-licensed physician, PA or nurse practitioner. That can be your own doctor.

How much does GLP-1 treatment cost in Georgia?

Our semaglutide program starts at $112/month (once-daily oral drops) or $135/month (weekly injections). Tirzepatide starts at $169/month. The price includes the medication itself, your doctor visits, ongoing medical supervision, and overnight refrigerated shipping. There is no membership fee, and the intake and your doctor's first review or visit are free: you pay nothing until you choose to start medication.

Do you take insurance?

Not at this time. We charge one all-in monthly price with the medication, doctor visits, and shipping included, so there is no prior authorization. HSA and FSA cards are accepted at checkout, and we provide itemized receipts and a Letter of Medical Necessity on request.

Which medications do you prescribe?

Compounded semaglutide (the active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic), available as once-daily oral drops or a weekly injection, and compounded tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Zepbound and Mounjaro) as a weekly injection. The injections also contain an added ingredient, such as a B vitamin, that the brand products do not. Your doctor recommends the medication, form, and dose that fit your health history and goals.

Who prescribes my medication?

James Simmons, MD, our medical director, is licensed in Georgia and board-certified in emergency medicine (ABEM). He reviews your intake, meets with you over video, and supervises your treatment over time.

Where in Georgia do you serve?

All of Georgia. Visits are over video and medication ships overnight statewide, so care is the same whether you're in Atlanta, Augusta, Columbus, Macon, or a town without a weight-management clinic nearby.

Does Medicare or Georgia Medicaid cover this?

Not through Gentle Health. We do not bill Medicare, Georgia Medicaid or private insurance, and everyone pays the prices shown on this page. To pursue coverage instead you would need a provider who accepts your plan and prescribes a medication it covers — the FDA-approved brands, not a compounded preparation. Where each programme stands:

  1. Georgia Medicaid: Weight-loss drugs are listed only for adolescents. Saxenda and Xenical are the sole weight-management drugs on the drug list, both limited to ages 12 to 17, and GLP-1s are approved only for type 2 diabetes, with an HbA1c of 6.5% or higher for Ozempic, Mounjaro and Victoza and 7% or higher for some others. The list and its criteria show no adult weight-loss route.
  2. Medicare: Coverage may still be possible through the federal GLP-1 Bridge: a $50 copay for Wegovy, Zepbound or Foundayo through December 31, 2027, for Part D enrollees with a BMI of 35 or more, or lower with specific heart, stroke, artery, blood-pressure, kidney or prediabetes conditions. Type 2 diabetes, moderate-to-severe sleep apnea and MASH are covered through regular Part D instead.

Does Georgia require an in-person visit before a doctor can prescribe?

No in-person visit is required before prescribing. Georgia Composite Medical Board rule 360-3-.07(a)(3)(d) lets a Georgia-licensed clinician qualify if able to examine the patient using technology or peripherals equal or superior to an examination done in person, which is why care in Georgia starts with a live video visit rather than a form. The same rule asks the clinician to make diligent efforts to have you seen in person by a Georgia-licensed clinician at least once a year.

Can a pharmacy outside Georgia ship my medication to me?

Only if it holds a Georgia nonresident pharmacy permit. O.C.G.A. § 26-4-114.1(d) makes it unlawful to ship, mail or deliver prescription drug orders into Georgia without one, and the permit is a public credential you can ask any provider to name.
