GLP-1 telehealth in Connecticut: how it works.
Telehealth rules vary by state, and so does how our service works. Here is exactly what to expect in Connecticut — with the public records to verify our licensure.
- In Connecticut, a licensed physician reviews your medical intake online and decides whether a video visit is needed.
- James Simmons, MD is licensed to practice in Connecticut (license 086482). Verify it yourself with the Connecticut Medical Examining Board (CT Department of Public Health).
Law and coverage answers checked against primary sources on September 16, 2026.
Can I get a GLP-1 prescription online in Connecticut?
Yes. You complete a short medical intake online, and a doctor licensed in Connecticut personally reviews it — no video visit needed (you can book one if you want it). If treatment is appropriate for you, your prescription is filled by a licensed US pharmacy and shipped overnight to your door anywhere in Connecticut. You don't need to visit a clinic to start treatment.
How much does GLP-1 treatment cost in Connecticut?
Our semaglutide program starts at $112/month (once-daily oral drops) or $135/month (weekly injections). Tirzepatide starts at $169/month. The price includes the medication itself, your doctor visits, ongoing medical supervision, and overnight refrigerated shipping. There is no membership fee, and the intake and your doctor's first review or visit are free: you pay nothing until you choose to start medication.
Do you take insurance?
Not at this time. We charge one all-in monthly price with the medication, doctor visits, and shipping included, so there is no prior authorization. HSA and FSA cards are accepted at checkout, and we provide itemized receipts and a Letter of Medical Necessity on request.
Which medications do you prescribe?
Compounded semaglutide (the active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic), available as once-daily oral drops or a weekly injection, and compounded tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Zepbound and Mounjaro) as a weekly injection. The injections also contain an added ingredient, such as a B vitamin, that the brand products do not. Your doctor recommends the medication, form, and dose that fit your health history and goals.
Who prescribes my medication?
James Simmons, MD, our medical director, is licensed in Connecticut and board-certified in emergency medicine (ABEM). He personally reviews your intake, meets with you over video when either of you wants a visit, and supervises your treatment over time.
Where in Connecticut do you serve?
All of Connecticut. Care is fully online and medication ships overnight statewide, so care is the same whether you're in Bridgeport, New Haven, Stamford, Hartford, or a town without a weight-management clinic nearby.
Does Medicare or HUSKY Health cover this?
Not through Gentle Health. We do not bill Medicare, HUSKY Health (Connecticut Medicaid) or private insurance, and everyone pays the prices shown on this page. To pursue coverage instead you would need a provider who accepts your plan and prescribes a medication it covers — the FDA-approved brands, not a compounded preparation. Where each programme stands:
- HUSKY Health: Not covered for weight loss. Since January 2025 every GLP-1 pharmacy claim has needed a type 2 diabetes diagnosis code, and the approved state plan covers only orlistat and phentermine as weight-loss drugs. Wegovy and Zepbound are reachable only with prior authorization for a different condition: cardiovascular risk reduction, MASH or obstructive sleep apnea.
- Medicare: Coverage may still be possible through the federal GLP-1 Bridge: a $50 copay for Wegovy, Zepbound or Foundayo through December 31, 2027, for Part D enrollees with a BMI of 35 or more, or lower with specific heart, stroke, artery, blood-pressure, kidney or prediabetes conditions. Type 2 diabetes, moderate-to-severe sleep apnea and MASH are covered through regular Part D instead.
Does Connecticut require a video visit before a doctor can prescribe?
No. Connecticut's telehealth law, § 19a-906, lets a provider deliver care through real-time video or store-and-forward review — an asynchronous transfer of your medical information that the doctor reviews later — and defines telehealth to include both. Its only prescribing limit applies to schedule I, II and III controlled substances, which GLP-1s are not. A separate Connecticut rule, § 20-613a, does bar prescriptions issued solely from an electronic questionnaire without an examination — but the legislature confined that rule to controlled substances too.
Will my other doctor be told what I was prescribed in Connecticut?
Only if you say so. At your first telehealth interaction, § 19a-906(d) requires the provider to ask whether you consent to your telehealth records being shared with your primary care provider. If you do, the records go to them in a timely manner; if you don't, they stay with us. Your consent to telehealth itself is recorded in your health record and you can revoke it at any time.
