GLP-1 telehealth in Colorado: how it works.
Telehealth rules vary by state, and so does how our service works. Here is exactly what to expect in Colorado — with the public records to verify our licensure.
- In Colorado, a licensed physician reviews your medical intake online and decides whether a video visit is needed.
- James Simmons, MD is licensed to practice in Colorado (license CDR.0007266). Verify it yourself with the Colorado Medical Board.
- Compounded semaglutide and tirzepatide are still prescribed lawfully, in narrower cases than before the FDA shortages ended. Is compounded tirzepatide still legal in 2026? explains the federal rules with the FDA’s own dates, and how to check any provider.
Law and coverage answers checked against primary sources on September 13, 2026.
Can I get a GLP-1 prescription online in Colorado?
Yes. You complete a short medical intake online, and a doctor licensed in Colorado personally reviews it — no video visit needed (you can book one if you want it). If treatment is appropriate for you, your prescription is filled by a licensed US pharmacy and shipped overnight to your door anywhere in Colorado. You don't need to visit a clinic to start treatment.
How much does GLP-1 treatment cost in Colorado?
Semaglutide injections start at $135/month and tirzepatide at $169/month. The price includes the medication itself, your doctor visits, ongoing medical supervision, and overnight refrigerated shipping. There is no membership fee, and the intake and your doctor's first review or visit are free: you pay nothing until you choose to start medication.
Do you take insurance?
Not at this time. For compounded medicine we charge one all-in monthly price with the medication, doctor visits, and shipping included, so there is no prior authorization. Brand-name care is $28/month for the doctor, and you buy the medicine from the maker's pharmacy. HSA and FSA cards are accepted at checkout, and we provide itemized receipts and a Letter of Medical Necessity on request.
Which medications do you prescribe?
Compounded semaglutide (the active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic) and compounded tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Zepbound and Mounjaro), each as a weekly injection. Tirzepatide and semaglutide injections may contain nothing added or a B vitamin. Your doctor recommends the medication, form, and dose that fit your health history and goals.
Who prescribes my medication?
James Simmons, MD, our medical director, is licensed in Colorado and board-certified in emergency medicine (ABEM). He personally reviews your intake, meets with you over video when either of you wants a visit, and supervises your treatment over time.
Where in Colorado do you serve?
All of Colorado. Care is fully online and medication ships overnight statewide, so care is the same whether you're in Denver, Colorado Springs, Aurora, Fort Collins, or a town without a weight-management clinic nearby.
Does Medicare or Health First Colorado cover this?
Not through Gentle Health. We do not bill Medicare, Health First Colorado or private insurance, and everyone pays the prices shown on this page. To pursue coverage instead you would need a provider who accepts your plan and prescribes a medication it covers — the FDA-approved brands, not a compounded preparation. Where each programme stands:
- Health First Colorado: Not covered for weight loss alone — the drug list states that prior authorization for that will not be approved. Three narrow routes exist: Wegovy for cardiovascular risk with established disease, GLP-1s approved for MASH liver disease with F2–F3 fibrosis, and Zepbound for sleep apnea with an AHI of 15 or more after a failed six-month CPAP trial or where PAP therapy is contraindicated.
- Medicare: Coverage may still be possible through the federal GLP-1 Bridge: a $50 copay for Wegovy, Zepbound or Foundayo through December 31, 2027, for Part D enrollees with a BMI of 35 or more, or lower with specific heart, stroke, artery, blood-pressure, kidney or prediabetes conditions. Type 2 diabetes, moderate-to-severe sleep apnea and MASH are covered through regular Part D instead.
Does Colorado require an in-person visit before a doctor can prescribe?
No Colorado statute or Medical or Pharmacy Board rule requires one before a non-controlled medication such as semaglutide or tirzepatide is prescribed. Board of Pharmacy rule 3 CCR 719-1, 3.00.21 says the patient-practitioner relationship a prescription depends on need not involve an in-person encounter if otherwise permissible under Colorado law. Since January 1, 2026 Colorado has also had a dedicated registration for out-of-state telehealth clinicians (C.R.S. 12-30-124), which applies Colorado's prescribing standards in full and bars controlled substances outright.
How does compounded medication reach a patient in Colorado?
By mail from an out-of-state pharmacy, only against a prescription written for that individual. An out-of-state pharmacy must register with the Colorado Board of Pharmacy, and rule 3 CCR 719-1, 21.00.20(b) provides that, unless otherwise allowed by state and federal law, a registered out-of-state pharmacy may ship compounded products into Colorado only pursuant to valid, patient-specific prescription orders. Separately, since June 2, 2026, C.R.S. 12-280-120(1.5) lets licensed pharmacies and 503B outsourcing facilities supply compounded drugs to licensed health-care providers and facilities, where federal and state law allow it.
